Marvel gets its first Best Picture nom with ‘Black Panther’

Marvel Studios picked up its first Best Picture Oscar nomination this morning, when Black Panther and producer Kevin Feige were nominated for the coveted award.

Black Panther picked up six other nominations, with nods for Costume Design, Production Design, Original Song, Original Score, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War also picked up a nomination, for Best Visual Effects. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse was nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The Favourite and Roma lead the awards nominations with ten apiece. A Star Is Born and Vice each have eight nominations.

Spike Lee picked up his first Best Director nomination, among six noms for BlacKkKlansman. Meanwhile, Amy Adams received her sixth nomination (no wins so far) for Vice.

Highlights:

  • He’s looking forward to Betrayal, though they haven’t started rehearsals yet
  • The Loki show on Disney+ is happening, but he can’t say much about it now, saying they all have to get through Avengers: Endgame first
  • Hints that The Night Manager Season 2 is slowly moving forward. He said they are looking at what the characters, including Jonathan Pine, might be doing in today’s world, and how that might work as a series 2
  • When asked, he said the most memorable moment of his career so far has been the “Hulk Smash” scene in Avengers
  • He loved both Mary Queen of Scots and Lady Bird, starring his fellow guest Saoirse Ronan

Hot Toys list reveals two Endgame Loki Cosbaby toys

An eagle-eyed Loki fan spotted an interesting collectible tied to Avengers: Endgame; two of them, in fact.

Hot Toys will once again be creating collectible Cosbaby toys for the movie – like the Captain Marvel movie one here – for Endgame.

For Endgame, there are two Loki Cosbaby toys listed for pre-order:

Some of the other collectibles listed include Thor with Rocket, a Doctor Strange, Wong and The Ancient One grouping, Iron Man ‘Damaged’, both Hawkeye and Ronin, Thanos and Gamora, as well as Hulk – so it looks like Banner and Hulk may work something out.

The collectibles are available for pre-order online from Ikon Collectibles in Australia.  They won’t be released until June 30, 2019.
